whether与if引导从句的区别

一、whether和that可以引导一切名词性从句，而if在引导名词性从句时，只能引导宾语从句和主语从句，而且不可以放在句首；

Whether she comes or not makes no difference.

她来否区别不大（在句首，不能用if）

The question whether he will come or not is still unanswered.

他来不来这个问题还是没有答案（引导同位语从句，不用if）

My question right now is whether I should write her a letter.

我现在的问题是要不要给她 封信（引导表语从句，不用if）

二、同时，whether可以作介词的宾语，而if不能

It depends on whether the letter arrives in time.

一切取决于信能不能及时寄到

三、whether可以后接不定式，而if不能

I am not sure whether to resign or stay on.

我还没有打定主意，是辞职还是留下

四、whether可以在后面直接跟or not，而if不能

I will be happy whether or not I get the job.

得不得到这个工作，我都会很高兴

或者：I will be happy whether/if I get the job or not
